Week In The Life {Monday}

So it is over and done with and i am so excited to get all these photos of our life and the words down on the pages. Looking back on the week it was a great snapshot of our life right now. I documented more words on Monday vs Sunday but that is ok. I have started with scrapbooking monday i thought i would share my design with you here. The pages are more graphic and simple then my scrapbook pages which i think is cool to have something different and it is making it super simple to wrap this project up quickly since i have lots of other stuff to scrap. I am really liking the 8.5×11 size. I have also collected random pieces of paper that was accumulated from that week and i plan to put it in an envelope at the front of the printed book. I do plan on printing with shutterfly.

Week In The Life {2012}

So typical me I decided to embark on this 7 day project the night before it is scheduled to start. I have known for awhile that it was starting soon & when i popped over to Ali’s blog tonight realized it was tomorrow, then mentioned it to my husband and we agreed we should jump on it. Document the crazy fun details of right now. Then i noticed that Ali has some handy print out sheets to get organized with the details each day. Sold. And Eric {my hubby } agreed to partake on documenting the details as well. What a huge help that will be.

So my plan …

I am going digital – thought perhaps about going hybrid but i am pretty sure i would not get that done until next year so i am doing what i am most comfortable with.

but … doing a format i have never used … yup 8 1/2 x 11. Why you ask? Well i have lots of 1212 books {LOVE love LOVE} and some 8×8 books but not any 8 1/2 x 11.

The template that i am basing the day to day photos is Share Your Story 8.5×11 Layered Template.

Background paper is going to be white … not sure which one yet.

Here is a link to my Week In The Life {2010} book over at shutterfly. Just seeing it has reminded me of how exciting this project is and how much has changed in our lives and am comforted by what is the same.

So my plan for February 29th is to NOT have a baby … i don’t think it would be fun to have a birthday on the 29th of February, but if he so chooses to arrive tomorrow we will deal with it! Sending Out The Love

Happy Love Day! Since this year was Spencer’s first year of school, this is the first year we handed out valentines. I poured over pinterest for hours looking at cool ideas for him to make something that wasn’t the typical valentine from a box. I was originally going to do this idea: I Dig You … but after an afternoon of searching locally for shovels i bailed on that idea. This is where i got the inspiration for the idea that we went with: You’re Just Write For Me. The heart outline i used is from a set from Ali Edwards called Heart Days of the Week Brushes and Stamps. The fonts that i used were Smiley Monster & Budmo Jiggler. We used pieces of black and white dot smash tape to secure the pencils to the hearts instead of punching holes. Spencer says the tape would be easier, but it was ‘boring’ according to him!

He also didn’t want to pose for a photo with the valentine after we were done – notice the grumpy eyebrow?

But he was excited to hand them out to all his classmates! A easy peasy valentine that didn’t involve a sweet treat.

Designer Digitals Colour Challenge

I love colour. Love playing with new combos and jumping out of my normal box. I really don’t think i use a lot of blues so it was fun to use this scheme to capture a few of spencer’s fave things right now. Love doing these pages randomly to capture little snapshots of the kids. I pulled products from various sets to get the look i was going after. I knew that i wanted to incorporate patterned paper & this frame is a great way to feature one photo & a few different designs as well. The splatters are also a great way of adding wee touches of colour onto a layout. {Layout is linked for full credits}

Make This Moment Count.

Remember me?! I have been such a slacker with blogging and am going to work on integrating blogging into my life again. I could really use some encouragement along the way & feedback as to what you would like to see from me. In about 7 weeks or so little mr-no-name-yet is due to arrive, crazy how fast his arrival is coming our family’s way. The past couple months have been filled with a lot of sadness with the passing of my grandmother and then suddenly last week my uncle passed away. Both of these special people are on the same side of the family. Hoping the arrival of our new baby will bring some joy to us in the coming months. Tonight i had a wee bit of scrap therapy and had some fun with a new template from Katie Pertiet. Thinking i might print this out, perhaps on canvas or maybe i will frame it. Any recommendations as to a company to use for a canvas? Sometimes playing with pattern and colour is just FUN!

My Take on December Daily

So i am jumping into this project that i have admired for years … however i am putting my own spin on it to make it do-able for me. I am thinking that i will use this project to capture the essence of our holiday as a family and not requiring myself to take photos or do a page every single day. Some days there might be 2 pages or just one or maybe 4, all depends on what is going on those days. Why am i doing this when just last week i said i wasn’t? My grandma passed away this past Saturday and this past week our family spent lots of time remembering who she was and what special memories we each had of our time with her. We also spent lots of time gathering photos & looking over the albums. So special to have the documentation. Our family life is changing – next year we will have a new little baby amongst the festivities, each year is different and we just don’t know what life will bring us so why not capture life as it is right now?

My plan is to use whatever elements/templates/alphas that are inspiring me to go with the photos – however i am thinking that i will use this new series of paper that Katie has out that i just love the design of. Solids and Stripes Paper Pack. And here and there i will use this set of number tags to add the date to the page.

Yummy Pumpkin Muffins

I love pumpkin muffins and have tried a few recipes over the years … but i have a new fave, so i thought i would share it with you. This fall i have made this recipe 3 times, each time making it slightly differently but each time they have been yummy. The last time i made, it was my fave - i swapped the oil for applesauce and a 1/4 cup of melted butter. Super moist result. By no means am i a ‘baker’ but i do enjoy homemade treats here and there, plus the kids love helping. The cinnamon/sugar sprinkle on the top is probably my fave part – it added a little bit of excitement to the top!

P U M P K I N M U F F I N S

{recipe is from Smitten Kitchen}

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup canned solid-pack pumpkin (from a 15 ounce can)
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice
1 1/4 cups plus 1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Put oven in middle position and preheat oven to 350°F. Put liners in muffin cups.

Whisk together pumpkin, oil, eggs, pumpkin pie spice, 1 1/4 cups sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until smooth, then whisk in flour mixture until just combined.

Stir together cinnamon and remaining 1 tablespoon sugar in another bowl.

Divide batter among muffin cups (each should be about three-fourths full), then sprinkle tops with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake until puffed and golden brown and wooden pick or skewer inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes.

Cool in pan on a rack five minutes, then transfer muffins from pan to rack and cool to warm or room temperature.
